Our Story

Born Inna di Yaad

YAAD TOON started with one question: why doesn't Jamaica have its own satirical cartoon? Three years, two laptops, and one very understanding landlord later — here we are.

How It Started

It started in a Kingston yard in 2021. A group of artists, writers, and lifelong cartoon fans sat around watching the evening news and laughing — not because it was funny, but because it was absurd. Potholes declared heritage sites. Ministers cutting ribbons on things that didn't exist. Experts explaining Jamaica to Jamaicans.

Someone said: 'This is already a cartoon. We just need to draw it.' That was the beginning of YAAD TOON.

We spent a year developing the characters, the visual style, and the voice. We wanted something that felt unmistakably Jamaican — not a copy of American animation, not a watered-down version of Caribbean culture. Bold colours, Patois dialogue, stories pulled straight from the headlines.

What We're About

YAAD TOON exists to hold a mirror up to Jamaican society — with love, with laughter, and with zero filter.

Satire with Substance

Every episode is rooted in real issues — infrastructure, governance, class, diaspora identity. We just tell it with cartoons.

For the Diaspora Too

Whether you're in Kingston, London, Toronto, or New York — if you grew up Jamaican, YAAD TOON is for you.

Authentic Jamaican Voice

Written, drawn, and produced by Jamaicans. No outsider gaze. No translation needed.
